Privacy Policy

Who we are

DeliciousDuck.com is an independent editorial site about buying, preparing, and cooking duck. This policy explains what data the site handles, why, and what choices you have. If you have a question or a request about your data, contact us at hello@deliciousduck.com with “Privacy request” in the subject line.

What we collect

• Nothing you type into our calculators. Every tool on the site runs entirely in your browser. Weights, guest counts, and temperatures are never transmitted to us or stored anywhere.
• Search queries you submit appear in the page URL and may be recorded in ordinary web-server logs. They are not linked to an identity.
• Email address — only if you submit the newsletter form. The address, the date you joined, and which page you signed up from are stored in DeliciousDuck's own database, which is our record of the list. Alongside it we store a topic label for that page (for example “duck breast” or “sourcing”) and the page path itself, so the emails we send match what you were reading; if you sign up from more than one page we keep the list of those topics. The address is then passed to our email provider, Resend, so we can send you a welcome email containing a download link for Duck the Fundamentals, the no-panic playbook (a printable 28-page PDF) and occasional recipes and guides. That topic label and page path are sent to Resend with the welcome email so it can be tailored. We do not ask for your name and do not attach the address to your browsing.
• Newsletter preferences and opt-out link — each subscriber row holds one random, opaque reference (no email address in it). That reference is the only identifier placed in the unsubscribe and preference links inside our emails, and possessing the link is what proves the request came from that mailbox. Using the unsubscribe link retires the reference immediately, so the link cannot be reused. The preference choice is a fixed topic label (for example “duck breast”) that only changes which examples lead in an issue; every subscriber receives the same issue. We also keep a plain stage label (“welcome” or “active”). We do not build a profile from opens, and these links are never sent to analytics.
• Delivery outcome records — when our email provider reports that a message bounced, was marked as spam, or that an address opted out, we store a short record of that outcome: the address, the outcome type, its timestamp, and a signature-verified provider reference. We do not store the provider's full message payload. These records exist so a suppressed address is never emailed again.
• Technical request data — IP address, browser user agent, referring page, and pages requested, kept in short-lived server logs for security and reliability.

Cookies and analytics

We use GA4 and PostHog to measure which guides, recipes, tools, and commercial links are useful. We send explicit page-view and interaction events with a path (never a query string), content category, placement, merchant, and affiliate status where relevant. Email addresses, subscriber identifiers, form contents, and mailbox tokens are not included. PostHog DOM autocapture, page-leave capture, and session recording are disabled, so we do not retain replay video, typed text, or a general log of page interactions. The analytics services still receive ordinary request and SDK metadata such as a timestamp, browser/device information, a pseudonymous analytics identifier, and network information needed to deliver the request. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Following an affiliate link may allow that retailer to set its own cookies under their privacy policy, which we do not control; see our affiliate disclosure.

How we use and share data

We use data only to operate and improve the site and, where you have opted in, to send the content you asked for. We do not sell personal data and do not share it with advertisers. Newsletter addresses are held in our own database and, once synced, processed by Resend (resend.com), our email delivery provider, acting on our instructions; site hosting and database providers process ordinary request and record data. If those processors change, this page is updated before the change takes effect.

Opting out

Unsubscribing takes effect in our own database first, which is the record that decides whether you are emailed: your row is marked unsubscribed with the date, and the link you used is retired. We then ask Resend to mark the same address as unsubscribed. If that provider request fails, our own opt-out still stands and we retry it internally. You can also reply to any email, or write to the address below, and we will action it by hand.

Retention

Server logs are retained for a short operational period and then discarded. Newsletter email addresses, once collected, are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, whichever comes first. Delivery outcome records (bounce, spam complaint, opt-out) are kept for as long as the address remains suppressed, because they are the evidence for not emailing it. Every newsletter email carries an unsubscribe link.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete personal data we hold about you, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent. Email hello@deliciousduck.com with “Privacy request” in the subject line and we will respond within 30 days. Because we hold very little data, most requests can be answered quickly.

Children

The site is intended for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA/UK). If you believe a child has submitted data, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If anything materially new is introduced — a new category of data, a new purpose for data we already hold, or a new provider that processes it — we will update this page and note the change here before that change takes effect.
